St. Thomas highlights here that the eternity of God is a secondary entitative attribute, following upon the primary attribute of immutability that directly follows from the ratio of ipsum esse per se subsistens.


The conclusion is simple and clearly drawn from the definition presented in the first article, for, if God is immutable, he must not be mutable in relation to duration, i.e., eternal.
