In this article and the next we are covering the name "Father." It is important to recall the previous question (Q. 31) when determining the sense of the question, especially the phrase proprie nomen. 


Here, we must resist the error of Cajetan, who taught that the proprie nomen is somehow distinct from that which is simply proprium. The text cannot hold up his interpretation. For, as we see in the section on the Holy Spirit, there are three proper names given to the Spirit, which would be impossible under the supposition of Cajetan of the singularity and uniqueness of the predication.
